The talented "Rehab" singer Amy Winehouse passed away in her London home on the hot summer day of Saturday, July 23rd, 2011, as reported by the UK Press Association. She was 27.
The world was shocked but not too surprised either. She has a history of drug and alcohol abuse, which she once tried to battle them off through the British rehabilitation program. Unfortunately, her latest performance in Belgrade, Serbia, showed the instability of her situation. She was staggering around the stage, stumbling through a few songs, and eventually had to cut the show short.
Jazz singer Tony Bennett, who recorded the classic pop standard "Body and Soul" with Winehouse at London's Abbey Road Studios, describes her as "an artist of immense proportions and I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing. She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end. She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance. I was honoured to have the opportunity to sing with her. It had been my sincere hope that she would be able to overcome the issues she was battling and I send my deepest sympathy to her father Mitchell, her entire family and all of those who loved her."
We sincerely wish her tortured soul to be on the road of recovery in the next world, while her soulful voice will always be remembered.
